Early in the morning at 4:00 am, we will pick you up from your hotel and drive for 4 hours in our minivan to Capuliyoc at 2,800 meters above sea level. Along the way, you'll enjoy spectacular views of towns, valleys, and snow-capped mountains. Once we arrive, we'll meet our staff (muleteers with their horses) who will pack all our equipment onto the packhorses. From here, we can enjoy the spectacular view of the Inca city of Choquequirao, the Apurimac Canyon, and the impressive snow-capped mountains like Padreyoc, Qoriwayrachina, and Pumasillo. We'll then hike downhill for 3 hours to Chiquisca (1,800 meters above sea level) for lunch. After lunch, we'll continue for another 2 hours downhill to our first campsite at La Playa Rosalinas.
After breakfast, we'll continue our journey towards the Choquequirao citadel. We'll cross the bridge and hike for 2 hours to reach Santa Rosa, where we'll take a rest and use the bathroom. We'll then continue on a narrow path for the next 3 hours until we reach Marampata (2,900 meters above sea level), where we'll have lunch while enjoying the breathtaking views of this beautiful place. After lunch, we'll hike for 2 more hours to reach our second night's camping area, which is only 20 minutes away from the archaeological site.
In the morning, our guide will take you through the agricultural terraces and waterfall, explaining the history and importance of each archaeological sector. We'll then return to the campsite for a delicious lunch prepared by our chef. After lunch, we'll visit the restored llama terraces, located about 300 meters (1,000 feet) below the main structures such as the Inca house, main temple, and temple of water. In the afternoon, we'll start the return hike, visiting the priest's house and the platform of sacrifices and rituals, hoping to spot condors on their way back to their nests.
After breakfast, we'll begin our return journey, which will be much easier and more relaxed. We'll first reach Marampata and then start the descent to Santa Rosa before reaching the banks of the Apurimac River (1,500 meters above sea level). Here, we'll have our lunch. After lunch, we'll continue the hike for two hours until we reach Chiquisca (1,800 meters above sea level), where we'll set up our last campsite for the night.
We'll start our day early with the ascent to Capuliyoc pass (2,800 meters above sea level), from where we'll get another view of the magnificent Apurimac Canyon and bid farewell to Choquequirao. After a well-deserved rest and a light lunch, we'll say goodbye to the muleteers and start our return journey in a minivan back to Cusco.
