Inca Trail Tour Itinerary 4 Days to Machu Picchu - Inka Trail

Day 1: Inka Trail – Wayllabamba

(Snacks, Lunch, Afternoon Tea, and Dinner)

IMPORTANT: A meeting with our official guide who will accompany and guide you during these 4 days is mandatory one day prior. We will provide precise information about the hike, walking distances, what to bring, and how to prepare.

We start the famous Inca Trail hike (5:30 am). Our team will pick you up from the hotel and travel by bus to Piskakucho or Km82. During the journey, we will pass through the towns of Chinchero, Urubamba, and Ollantaytambo. Upon arrival, we will go through the control checkpoints. We will pass by small archaeological sites until we reach Patallacta, a city of great importance in Inca times.

We continue the hike until we reach Miskay, the place for a delicious lunch and a short rest. We resume our hike to reach the first campsite, Wayllabamba. Afternoon tea with popcorn, cookies, and hot beverages will be served before dinner.

Camp overnight in tents at Wayllabamba. Elevation 3,000 m.a.s.l. or 9,842 feets.

Day 2: Wayllabamba – Warmiwañuska – Pacaymayo

(Breakfast, Lunch, Afternoon Tea, and Dinner)

After breakfast, we continue our hike towards Pacaymayo. The first 3 hours will be the most challenging ascent until we reach Warmiwañuska (Dead Woman Pass). Located at 4,200 m.a.s.l. or 13,779 feets. This is the highest point where we can feel the sensation of having reached the highest point and admire the beauty of the landscape. After a short rest, we resume our hike to descend to Pacaymayo for lunch. Everything will be ready for us to settle into the tents. Afternoon tea will be served before a delicious dinner.

Day 3: Pacaymayo – Puyupatamarca – Wiñayhuayna

(Breakfast, Lunch, Afternoon Tea, and Dinner)

After breakfast, we continue our hike and start the ascent to the second pass known as "Abra de Runcurakay" (3970 meters above sea level), where we will visit an important archaeological site. After a brief exploration, we reach Sayacmarca, important for its structure and then we´ll continue to Chakicocha or dry lagoon here we stop  for lunch. After a refreshing meal, we continue to observe the vegetation and geography of the area, which becomes drier and more mountainous.

We pass through solid rock tunnels along the way to reach the city "Puyupatamarca," a place often covered in mist. We continue our journey to Wiñayhuayna, descending to an elevation of 2700 meters, where we encounter Inca terraces known as "andenes," religious and urban sectors. Afternoon tea will be served before dinner.

Camp overnight in tents at Wiñayhuayna. Elevation 2,600 m.a.s.l. or 8,530 feets.

Day 4: Wiñayhuayna – Machu Picchu – Cusco

The great day has arrived as a reward. At 3:00 am, after breakfast or with a box lunch for the journey, we begin our journey to Machu Picchu. We start with a short hike to reach Intipunku (Sun Gate) and witness the sunrise, where Machu Picchu reveals itself in all its splendor. Then, we start descending to the Inca citadel.

In Machu Picchu, we will have a guided tour of the entire citadel, providing extensive information and history. Afterward, there will be free time to continue exploring Machu Picchu, rest, take more photos, and selfies from various angles. After the tour in Machupicchu you´ll take the bus to Aguas Calientes town have luch.The return train schedule to Cusco will be provided by our guides, so don't worry and just enjoy. Return journey by train to the Ollantaytambo station, where our staff will be waiting to take you to your hotel in Cusco.

What to bring on the Inca Trail:

  • We recommend that you bring only what is necessary to enjoy your journey and leave the rest of your belongings at the hotel in Cusco.
  • The original passport or the document used to make the tour reservation.
  • A small backpack of 50 liters that allows you to carry all the things you will need.
  • A sleeping bag, preferably rated for temperatures from 5 to 10 degrees Celsius below zero. You can rent one from our office if you don't have your own.
  • Appropriate clothing for hiking, including waterproof and comfortable shoes for long walks, shorts and long pants, sports shirts made of dry-fit fabric, and a rain jacket or poncho.
  • Warm clothing to be used at the campsite (we recommend comfortable cotton garments for sleeping, a hat, and gloves for the cold). Walking socks and sandals to be used at the campsites. You should also bring plastic bags to separate your belongings in the backpack (clean, wet, dirty, and others).
  • A water in metal bottle for the first day of the hike. From the second day onward, we will provide filtered and cold boiled water for your water bottles.
  • The use of water bottles is mandatory along the Inca Trail; the authorities do not allow the use or entry of plastic bottles.
  • Personal hygiene items: a small towel, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, toilet paper, and hand sanitizer. The latter two items are very important.
  • Personal medications, including muscle relaxants, pain relievers, and blister treatment for potential foot blisters after several hours of hiking.
  • Items to protect yourself from the sun and mosquitoes, such as sunscreen, sunglasses, hats or caps, and mosquito repellent.
  • Headlamps with batteries and an extra battery for your camera (they will be used every night at the campsites, especially on the last day when we wake up around 3:30 am).
