ITINERARY OF THE SHORT INCA TRAIL TO MACHU PICCHU.

DAY 1: CUSCO - KM 104 - MACHU PICCHU

Our 2-day, 1-night Inca Trail tour to Machu Picchu starts early in the morning. We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco and transfer you by car to Ollantaytambo. The journey takes approximately 2 hours. Upon arrival, we will board the train to Machu Picchu. We will disembark at kilometer 104 to begin our trek.

The trek, led by our expert guide, starts amidst jungle and mountain landscapes. The first point we reach is Chachabamba, an important Inca archaeological site. We will then walk for approximately 3 hours until Wiñayhuayna or for ever young, an impressive archaeological site with Inca terraces, as well as religious and urban sectors. We will continue our trek until we reach Intipunku, from where Machu Picchu can be seen in all its splendor. We will then begin our descent to Aguas Calientes, where we will transfer to the hotel to settle in and spend the night in this beautiful town. Overnight stay in Aguas Calientes.

DAY 2: VISIT MACHUPICCHU THE WORLD WONDER.

Early in the morning you will have breakfast at the hotel and take the bus that will transport you to  Machu Picchu Archaeological Sanctuary. The journey trip takes 30 minutes, and we will finally arrive to Machu Picchu, where you can recharge your energy and enjoy the breathtaking view from the citadel. Our guide will start the guided tour to provide you with a better understanding of the history and architecture of the Inca city of Machu Picchu.  Also you´ll apreciate the flora and also the fauna from this nice place. After the guided tour and walk through Machu Picchu, you´ll take the bus down to Aguas Calientes there you can have luch then go to the train station to go by train to Ollantaytambo then by bus back to Cusco.

What to pack for the 2-day inca trail to machu picchu?

As an operator of Direct Local Tour, we provide you with a canvas bag during your briefing and INCLUDE an additional porter who will carry up to 7 kg or 14 lbs, including your 2.5 kg sleeping bag, mattress, and extra clothing.

  • 2 T-shirts.
  • 2 hiking pants at least.
  • 4 sets of underwear.
  • 3 pairs of hiking socks.
  • Fleece or thermal clothing.
  • Warm clothing, a jacket for camping with temperatures around 3°C.
  • Comfortable shoes for camping.
  • Quick-drying towel. We provide small ones, but you may prefer something larger.
  • Small bottle of soap: We provide warm water every day for washing.
  • Battery charger: There is no electricity along the hike.
  • Large plastic bags will be provided at the office. Please ask for them.
  • Sleeping bag: It should be at least -15°C. It can be rented from us for $20 USD.
