In this program, we will visit one of the new tourist circuits in Cusco. The Humantay lagoon, is a natural attraction located in the town of Soraypampa. Previously only those who ventured on the hike to the Salkantay snow-capped mountain would visit it, but now it has become one of the most visited places by travelers. Visiting Laguna Humantay will not take more than 1 day, and the hike is easy if you have acclimatized in Cusco beforehand. The reward for this effort will be the marvelous landscape observed at this turquoise-colored lagoon.

Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Mollepata – Soraypampa – Laguna Humantay

The journey begins in the morning. Where our transfer will pick you up between 4:00 to 4:30 in the morning. Then will have a 2 hours bus ride to the town of Mollepata, where you´ll have breakfast and stock up on provisions. After breakfast, we will continue our journey for another hour by car on a dirt road until we reach the community of Soraypampa, located at 3,800 meters above sea level. During the trip, we will see beautiful landscapes and the impressive snow-capped mountain of Humantay and the beautiful "Salkantay". From Soraypampa, we will embark on a 2 km hike. The path is uphill and it will take approximately one and a half to 2 hours. During the hike, we will see a panorama of snow-covered mountains, breathtaking natural landscapes, and a great diversity of flora and fauna until we reach the " Humantay lagoon" at an altitude of 4200 meters above sea level.

The "Humantay lagoon" has a turquoise color due to the minerals found at the bottom. The lagoon is fed by the mountain's glaciers and is considered a natural jewel. In addition to marveling at Laguna Humantay, we can enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding mountains. We will descend on foot to the community of Soraypampa then by bus to Mollepata, where you´ll enjoy a buffet lunch. After lunch, bus ride back to Cusco. Our tour ends at approximately 5:30 to 6:00 in the evening, thus concluding our one-day hike to Humantay lagoon.

Recommendations:

Consider that the altitude reaches 4200 meters above sea level, and the hike is of low to medium difficulty.
Not suitable for people with heart conditions or hypertension
Warm clothing (jacket, scarf, gloves, hats).
Hat, cap, and sunglasses.
Snacks (chocolates, candies, coca leaves).
Water or hydration.
Camera and spare batteries.
Personal medical kit.
Sunscreen.
Trekking shoes or waterproof boots for comfort. Sneakers with rubber or thick soles are an excellent option.
Rain gear: A good raincoat, rain pants (only during the rainy season).
Extra money for drinks, tips, souvenirs, etc. (soles or dollars).
Above all, a positive attitude and good humor.
